As
our motto says, XTC Dive Center really is the place for “something
different down below”. And something different up above,
too. XTC is a small, owner-operated business located at the end
of the road to nowhere. We came here searching for a simpler,
quieter way of life and the pristine diving. And we would like
to share some of this magic with you. You won’t find any
fast-talking, high-pressure divemasters or rigid dive schedules
at XTC. We live above the shop and someone is always around. Yes,
we do try to adhere to a schedule but it is pretty flexible. Just
drop by when you feel like diving. Or give us a call on the marine
radio and we will pick you up in a boat. Our employees are part
of the family and many of our dive professional friends live and
work here at different times of year. This is our home and we
would love to take you on a tour of our back yard!
Xcalak is the perfect vacation
destination for divers and explorers who are searching for something
way off the beaten track. We don’t have much nightlife beyond
happy hour, unless stargazing or night snorkeling interests you.
Nor do we have any tourist-oriented commercialization, just a
few eco-hotels. The town is much as it was for the last 50 years.
You can’t buy any novelties to take home but you can buy
the basics. We DO have lots of peace and quite, a wide variety
of ecosystems to explore, world class fly fishing, and the best
diving on the coast of Quintana Roo. Plus, the magical Banco Chinchorro
is just an hour and a half away.
Xcalak offers miles of empty beaches,
the gorgeous turquoise bay out front is over 20 kms. long and
almost a kilometer wide, with depths seldom exceeding 8 feet.
This bay is a snorkeler’s dreamland and a wonderful place
to begin scuba training. And for certified divers, we have dozens
of local dive sites within 5-15 minutes by boat and Banco Chinchorro
just over the horizon.
XTC is a full service dive center
offering all levels of recreational and technical instruction,
snorkeling tours, fishing, and bird watching. We are fully licensed
and insured dive professionals with a really relaxed way of doing

RELAXED
DIVING
At
XTC Dive Center, we run a pretty relaxed dive schedule. Normally,
we begin gearing up for local dives at 9 AM, 11 AM, and 2 PM and
are in the water within 30 minutes-but we are happy to schedule
dives at other times to suit your schedule. We plan our deepest
dive of the day first; successive dives are progressively shallower.
If you have a dive computer , we will be happy to plan computer
dives. For groups of 4 or more, we can give you your own boat,
Divemaster, and Captain-you decide when you want to dive. We always
return to the shop between dives so you can have a snack and relax
on the beach during your surface interval. Occasionally, we plan
2 tank trips farther north; in which case we will stop at a restaurant
or on the beach for our surface interval. Night dives are conducted
just after dusk and Chinchorro trips always leave between 7 and
8 AM.
SPECIAL
SERVICES
To save driving time, since we
know you would rather be diving, we offer free pick-up in our
boats as far north as Kimmel's Kabana (see maps) for any number
of divers. For four or more divers, we will pick you up for free
as far north as Cielos Azules, less than 4 divers we charge $10
for pick-up. If you stop by the dive shop when you arrive, you
can fill out your release forms and get fitted for equipment on
your first day. For subsequent days of diving, a dive boat will
show up at your hotel with all your equipment ready-all you have
to do is jump in the boat and go dive! For those of you with your
own equipment, we will wash and dry your equipment at the end
of each day then store it in our shop.
TECHNICAL
DIVES
If
you are certified for deep air (extended range) or other technical
diving, we will be happy to arrange guided dives for you up to
180 fsw. You will plan your dive and decompression schedule with
one of our technical divers and/or instructors. We can blend deco
gases up to 100% EANx. We will also be offering Trimix in the
near future!
GREAT
PRICES
We have priced our dives so that
those of you who want to do lots of dives over a series of days
can still benefit from package prices. Unlike most dive operators
who charge by the number of tanks per day, you can take advantage
of our multiple tank prices and spread your dives out over as
many days as you like. For example, if you would like to dive
only once per day for 10 days, you will be charged at the 10+
dive price ($240.00) rather than $35 per dive.
